The second India vs England Test brought some good news for the Rohit Sharma-led hosts. After a loss in the first test, India needed a good start in the second Test. And they got just that as they zoomed past 335-plus total on the first day itself. While stars like Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill could not leave a big impact, a solid unbeaten 175-plus score by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was crucial in India dominating the show. 

India lost six wickets and none of the those batters could touch even 35. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second Test ton thus stood out and earned him a special praise. 

 “The talent is there. He has maintained the same approach in domestic cricket. We looked at how he batted in the IPL and that is why he got the opportunity in international cricket. We saw that in the first Test how attacking he can be. He hit two sixes off Tom Hartley‘s first over. Even here, he tried to be positive. Hit Joe Root for a boundary early on. It was in the air but this is how modern-day batters play. What an innings he has played so far. I think he is the most dangerous Indian batter at the moment,” Owais Shah, former England star, said in the post-Lunch show on Jio Cinema.

Talking about the match, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a magnificent unbeaten 179 as India reached 336 for 6 at stumps on the opening day of the second Test against England here on Friday. The 22-year-old Jaiswal, who made 80 in the opening match in Hyderabad, struck his second century in six Tests.

He slammed 17 fours and five sixes during his knock that came off 257 balls.

Jaiswal was involved in a 90-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer who made 27. Debutant Rajat Patidar made 32.

At close of play, R Ashwin was giving company to Jaiswal on five.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma (14 runs; 41 balls) fell cheaply, while Shubman Gill (34; 46b) failed to convert his start.

For England, debutant spinner Shoaib Bashir and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed took two wickets apiece while James Anderson and Tom Hartley chipped in with one wicket each.
